Kent Hills Wind Farm
The Challenge:
Transport, erect and commission 32 wind turbines in New Brunswick's first wind farm project for client TransAlta. The turbines had to be moved from the port in Saint John to the project site in Kent Hills. Each turbine stood 80 metres in height and had a 45-metre blade.
Our Solution:
With the help of our affiliate company Gulf Operators, which built the access road, we successfully delivered windmill components together with our crane equipment to the remote wind farm location.
The transportation portion of this complex project involved numerous trucks and trailers from our large specialized transportation fleet. Notably, our Kenworth Heavy Duty tractor provided the power needed to haul many of the loads up the steep mountain, in adverse ground conditions.
We employed many different cranes to erect and commission the wind turbines. The cranes used in the project were as follows:
- Liebherr LR1400
- Liebherr LTM1400
- Manitowoc 888
- Liebher LTM1250
- Two Grove RT875Es
